It's been a bit since I've read a zombie book and this one was entertaining. I wasn't hooked straight away, but I ended up plowing through it last night and today. In fact, I was cruising along and boom - Epilogue. So, this book definitely ends with the notion of more to follow...and there is more to follow. I see Book 2 is also available. So, the mysterious contagion that kills billions and creates the Zombie-Apocalypse...is still a mystery. In fact, there wasn't really any information about what exactly happened. The story is Christian's diary and the narrative introduces us to the beginning - his beginning - learning about the zombies and trying to figure out how to survive. He is, most definitely, the reluctant hero of sorts. He struggles with compassion and logic, but is a likable character. He teams up with a strong ally, and the pair begin to navigate this new world order. Of course, there are other survivors and the 'standards' of zombie survival come out to play; such as, looting, scavenging, killing, starving, hiding, running, etc. There were several 'tactically moving' bits that I found repetitive. The writing style is fine, but I did note that the writing could be tightened up a bit. For example, a sentence, or near copy, was sometimes repeated not far from the original. I only noticed a few grammatical errors, which is pretty nice. PS: Think omnivores when you read this.
