Hekate's Chalice

Of the two 'famous' Supernatural/Sci-Fi/Detectives series, Hekate's Chalice reminds me more of Kim Harrison's Hallows Series; the dynamic team, help from Hell, and political power-struggles between covens. In some ways, if you've read the aforementioned series, you've partly already read this novella. But, that isn't a bad thing. The story, short as it is, flows quickly. JB's GF is the Deus ex machina in this story. Without him, the case and [redacted spoiler] would have been blown. This makes me wonder: Short book needing resolution or lazy writing using the convenience card. I think it is the former, personally. I enjoyed this short read (about 90 minutes). Overall, the words flowed and a little character development happened in short order. Now, I will say this to the author: editing!!! Here's a glaring freebie: Pick the name and stick to it. Henderson or Sanderson. The names are not interchangeable. Ctrl+f to make the corrections and reload your product. There are other editing concerns, but I'll leave them for you to find. In closing: entertaining, fun characters, action-oriented, and loads of ways future installments can go.

From the Publisher:

A stolen artifact. An imminent deadline. A tenacious investigator.

JB runs a private detective agency, but if business doesn’t pick up soon, he’ll have to close the doors for good. When someone steals Hekate’s chalice, JB and his maverick team jump at the chance to track down the supernatural object. They’re resourceful and determined, but can they outsmart wizards, witches, and daemons before the client’s deadline expires?

If you like gripping mysteries interwoven with generous doses of magic and humor, then you’re going to love Teagan Kearney’s book, 'Hekate’s Chalice', the first volume of the 'Adept Solutions' series..
