I’ve had this for quite some time and started/stopped initially. I picked it up some time later and read from beginning to end. At this time, there is only one review on Amazon and it simply says, “Brilliant”. So, I’m going to go a bit deeper. Mutant zombies. Some quick, some not. The turn is practically instantaneous and their need to feed controls their action. There is an Army base near a quaint town semi-isolated in the valley (I guess it is long, too). The story begins with an accident and gets deadly quick. There are so many characters, which Kreig uses to provide simultaneous action in various parts of the town. It keeps the pace going strong. The downside, I didn’t connect to the cast of characters. The struggle for survival is extremely brutal, which is fun. There are minimal typos throughout the book (to vs too, then vs. the, etc). Overall, this was an entertaining read that had a fast pace. However, the scenes were still filled with a lot of the same. It could be edited a bit as the story tends to feel long. ARC provided by author at some point.
3 of 5 stars. From the Publisher:
In the small community of Long Valley, nestled comfortably beneath snow-capped mountains, everybody knows everybody and life is simple. But something disturbing has awakened and is about to tear the small town apart. A tragic accident near the valley’s army base sparks a number of terrifying events placing the local civilians in mortal danger. A contagion is released into the environment, infecting pets, livestock, wild life and people. It’s up to the local law enforcement and a small band of citizens to try and keep the town safe. In the end, it becomes a struggle for survival as more and more town folk are overcome by the urge to feed.
