Shattered Moon

Shattered Moon, Book three in the Fractured Space series (not including the prequel, Harper's Ten), is what I've been waiting for since Star Splinter. Coming in over 350 pages - this isn't a quick read, and there are times where I was thinking this tale could have been shaved a bit, but overall it is an enjoyable adventure. Further reading may be considered spoiling. So, this is your warning. Click away from these words. Okay, still here? The entire team. Yes. I said it. But, if you've read the previous works, then you knew Kaia would be back. But boy, Cressey is not a nice author. There is pain. There is carnage. The team gets banged-up harshly. Kaia is on Hoth. Not THE Hoth, but something reminiscent for sure. The pirates are all gathered and if Cal and crew have any shot of getting Kaia back - they must voluntarily slip into the belly of the beast. The pirates are ruthless and heavily armed....and that is only part of the problem. I won't spoil the particular results. Aside from sections running a bit too long for my personal taste, this is a great installment in the series. 4.5 of 5 stars. Author provided copy.

From the Publisher:

Fear is rising, and civilized space is fast becoming a good deal less civilized. After eight desperate months of searching, Cal Harper and his crew have finally unearthed a promising clue as to Kaia’s whereabouts. Taken by pirates during the rescue of Federation survivors, her fate remains uncertain. But so too is the fate of humanity itself… With the destruction of Earth, the Insidions have struck a devastating blow only to sink back into the shadows to let the poison spread. Thousands of colonies have been forced into self-sufficiency, and the loss of interstellar communications is making the situation infinitely worse. Riding on the building chaos, the pirates are proving increasingly organized. So much so that Cal fears a leader may have arisen—one powerful enough to unite the disparate clans. But Cal isn’t about to give up his search, not by a long shot, and his crew are sticking with him every step of the way. But trouble is brewing in ways few could have predicted, and fortunately or not, Cal and his friends have a talent for finding the worst of it.
